Dr. A. Laxminarayana was till recently working as Emeritus Scientist of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (Govt. of India) at Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Cochin, Kerala State, India. He has more than 44 years of research and teaching experience and 35 years of experience in Administration, Consultancy and Extension. He is an internationally known consultant in Aquaculture specially in the fields of marine shrimp, freshwater prawn, mudcrab,finfish and seacucumber breeding and culture. He is also an expert member of the Aquaculture farm Certification following the guidelines of Aquaculture Stewardship Council(ASC). He is a recipient of National Award for the year 1980 – 81 for his outstanding research contributions in the field of shrimp breeding and culture and recipient of several international awards. He has served/serving as a consultant / Advisor to several countries like Mauritius, Iran, Cambodia, Vietnam, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and other gulf countries, Namibia, Tanzania,Uganda, Ghana (EU funded projects) and several Govts and organizations in India(Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu. Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Himachal Pradesh & Kerala). He was Visiting Scientist (FAO fellow) of the University of California (1985). He has represented India in FAO conference on shrimps/prawns held at Bangkok in 1989. He also served / serving as Consultant to National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), World Bank Amrita School of Pharmacy ,SDA University Gujarat and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).Consultant (Expert) to FAO & ILO of United Nations, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), KFW Developement Bank of Germany, Deloitte, PWC. He has served an consultant to Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) for the development of freshwater fisheries for the state of Himachal Pradesh. He is also Expert committee member of TIFAC (Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India), Expert Comittee member of Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) and Faculty Member of Asian Institute of Food Safety Management. As chief Training organizer of the Trainers' Training Centre of Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (during 2000 – 2004), he has organized and coordinated several training programmes and workshops in Aquaculture and Fisheries in the National and International level. He is the expert committee member of many organizations & Examiner of several prestigious universities in India. He is a National Monitoring Leader(NML), Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India and Consultant to KITCO, Govt. of Kerala and Associated with KUFOS as Aquaculture and Fisheries Expert.
He has formulated several project reports in the field of aquaculture and fisheries in varied subjects like shrimp breeding and culture,finfish breeding and culture (specially cage culture of fish ) biofloc and RAS systems of farming of Shrimp and finfishes,freshwater prawn breeding and culture, mudcrab breeding and culture, seacucumber breeding and culture, sustainable development of wetlands and marshy lands and conservation of mangroves and in the field of marine pharmacology for different countries. He can write and speak 9 languages and he possesses good knowledge of computer. He is serving as Reviewer of several National and International Journals dealing with Fisheries, Aquaculture and Biological Sciences.He is a member of several Govt. of India Expert committees dealing with aquaculture and fisheries.
